The African Migration Observatory (AMO) hosted a high-level delegation from Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS), led by H.E Mr. Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Harfash, Secretary of the University's Supreme Council and Undersecretary for External Relations. The delegation included the Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM - UN Migration) Mission in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , the Head of Mission in Kingdom of Morocco, and the Regional Data Hub officer at IOM Regional Office for Middle East and North Africa.
H.E. Amb. Namira Negm (Dr), Director of the African Migration Observatory (AMO) welcomed the delegation and opened the meeting with an introductory presentation on the African Union's efforts in managing migration. She provided an overview of the African Union's initiatives to manage migration at the continental level. Following her presentation, a seminar highlighted the AMO's efforts to strengthen migration governance in Africa, as the technical office responsible for assisting member states and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in collecting and analyzing migration data, to support relevant policymaking at the continental level.
In his remarks, H.E Mr. Khalid Al-Harfash provided an overview of the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, emphasizing the role of the Arab Center for Technical Cooperation on Migration and Border Management (ACTC - MBM). H.E highlighted that the Center is committed to improving regional governance and fostering joint Arab cooperation in migration management. Its initiatives include collecting data and statistics, assessing policies and strategies related to immigration and asylum, and providing recommendations and technical programs.
The meeting facilitated meaningful discussions regarding the African Migration Observatory's (AMO) activities and roles, with an emphasis on identifying opportunities for collaboration with the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. This meeting aligns with AMO's strategic goals as it seeks to engage various stakeholders to enhance understanding of migration issues in Africa, promote the sharing of expertise in migration data management, and ultimately develop effective mechanisms for cooperation in mutually beneficial areas.
